Heritage Walk

Lose yourself as you explore the municipality of Boljoon, where things seem to be frozen in the stream of time. As you walk through the Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish Church and its museum, local guides will help you rediscover once-lost traditions and practices of the native Cebuanos during the beginning of the Spanish period. The heritage walk in this ever-enduring town will allow you to lose track of time and relive the history of one of the oldest places in the country.

Boljoon Guides

The tour guides of Boljoon belong to the Asosasyon sa mga Boljoanong Mamumuo sa Turismo (ASBOMATU), a community-based organization. ASBOMATU is supported by the local government unit of Boljoon, the Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish, and SMART.

Since 2015, Medida has been the president of Asosasyon sa mga Boljoanong Mamumuo sa Turismo (ASBOMATU), a community-based organization. When SMART, the LGU of Boljoon, and the Patrocinio de Maria Parish created the organization, he decided to join and became the president. Medida is also a museum guide.

Medez is 27 years old from Poblacion Boljoon, Cebu. In 2014, she joined ASBOMATU, and by September 2015, she began working as a museum caretaker-cum-tour guide. She became one of the best guides through trainings.

Rodel Roma

Tour Guide

At age 10, Roma started as a sacristan in the parish church, one of the people who helped in cleaning the museum, and at times, acted as one of the tour guides. At that tender age, he began to feel the desire to become a tour guide and a member of ASBOMATU. In 2016, he became a member of the organization and started guiding tours in the museum and church after his classes.

Ruela worked at the tourism office from 2013 to 2014. He would transfer to the mayor’s office and work there from 2014 to 2016. He is also a member of ASBOMATU, one project of which is helping the community of Boljoon by providing livelihood to support the locals’ daily needs. Through trainings of the organization, he became a qualified tour guide.

Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, and to avoid heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Lack of water is harmful to your body. Drink at least 8 glasses or more every day. Invest on reusable and BPA safe water bottles.

During the summer, we are always exposed to bright light from the sun rays, Non-polarized sunglasses have 100% UV protective coating that can properly protect your eyes.

Non-Toxic, Reef Friendly Sunscreen

Use a non-toxic, reef-friendly sunscreen lotion, of at least SPF 30, in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and to protect the environment from further exposure to harmful pollutants. Mandatory reapply when staying out in the sun for a long period of time.

Make yourself unattractive to insects. Enjoy the outdoors by guarding your skin against them by wearing insect repellant lotions and/or badges.

First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit

Dust off your old first aid kit and update it with things you need. Include small doses of over-the-counter medications, such as pain relievers, and medications for allergy, asthma, and motion sickness. Keep the kit away from direct sunlight.

Loose - Fitting Garments

Wearing loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing could help you keep cool in the heat. Avoid dark colors as they absorb the sun's rays.
