Over 120 students and teachers from the Cebu Technological University – Argao enjoy a 3-day story writing and storytelling workshop from April 24 to 26, 2017 at the Argao Training Center, which was facilitated by The Storytelling Project, a Manila-based NGO that aims to spark hope, inspiration and imagination through storytelling. The event is part of Smart Communities’ Kwentuhang Batibot Caravan and Storytelling Festival.

 

On the first day, participants learned the elements of storytelling handled by Mr. Rey Bufi. Storytelling workshop activities include Writing and Consultation, Paradigms on Storytelling, Theater Arts and a Storytelling demonstration. In the afternoon, participants where given the opportunity to have a run through of the Batibot app. Mr. Kimo Cea of Sugbu Turismo also shared the projects of the team and how important storytelling or Interpretation is in the aspect of ecotourism.

 

The second day was all about Story Writing and was handled by children’s book writer MJ Tumamac, where he gave an Introduction to Children’s Books, and gave an interactive workshop demonstration that gave participants a chance to present their written stories during their individual readings.

 

During the last day of the workshop, students from coastal schools of Cebu South where invited to join and be part of the Batibot Storytelling Festival, where the final works of the participants are finally presented to the public. Argao Mayor Stanley Caminero was one of the special guests as he became a storyteller, together with 6 groups of storytellers.

The Kwentuhang Batibot Caravan is brought to us by Smart Communications, the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office, LGU Argao, Department of Education Region VII, Super Balita, and the Cebu Technological University.
